What a mockup is#
A mockup is a visual of the design on your boat, often shown from the side, front, and back. It helps you see how colors, graphics, and text work together. Mockups may be based on photos of your boat or a drawing of its profile.
Mockups are a guide, not an exact preview. Curves, fittings, and lighting will look different in real life.
What a proof is#
A proof is a more detailed file showing the exact design, colors, text, and dimensions. Some installers also provide a printed color sample. Approving the proof usually means the design will be printed as shown.
What to check#
Before approving, look carefully at:
- Spelling of names, phone numbers, and websites
- Logo accuracy and colors
- Text direction on both sides of the boat
- Placement relative to fittings and windows
- Registration numbers and required markings
- Size of key elements
Read every word slowly. Spelling mistakes are a common and expensive error.
Color accuracy#
Screens show colors differently. If color matters, ask for a printed sample of key colors. View it outdoors, against your boat.
How many revisions?#
Most designers include a set number of revisions. Ask how many are included and what additional changes cost. Gather feedback from everyone involved before sending changes, so you don't waste rounds.
Getting others to review#
If the boat represents a business, have a second person check the proof. Fresh eyes catch mistakes you might miss.
After approval#
Once approved, the design goes to print. Changes after printing usually mean reprinting, which adds cost and delays. If you're unsure about anything, ask before signing off.
