Jet skis and other personal watercraft are popular for wraps. Their hulls fade in the sun, factory graphics date quickly, and owners like to match their PWC to their boat or trailer. Rental operators also use wraps to brand and number fleets. PWCs have some unique challenges, though, from tight curves to hard use.
Why wrap a jet ski#
- Refresh faded, chalky, or scratched hull surfaces
- Match the PWC to a boat, team, or other watercraft
- Add custom graphics or colors not offered by the factory
- Brand and number a rental fleet
Tight curves and complex shapes#
PWC hulls and hoods have tight curves, deep recesses, vents, and handles. Film has to stretch around these shapes, which takes skill. Pre-designed graphics kits made for specific models can make installation easier, because they're already cut to fit. Custom designs need careful templating.
Know your hull material#
PWC hulls and parts may be fiberglass, sheet-molded composite, or plastic. Some plastics have slick surfaces that adhesives struggle to bond with. Ask your installer whether your model's materials are suitable and whether special preparation is needed.
Hard use and wear zones#
Jet skis are beached, trailered, launched at ramps, and ridden hard. Expect wear on:
- The lower hull and chines
- Areas where riders' legs grip the sides
- The rear boarding area
- Spots that touch trailer bunks
Keep graphics above the waterline and away from the main contact areas.
Seats and footwells#
Seats are upholstered, not wrapped. Footwells and boarding platforms need grip, so avoid standard film on these surfaces.
Rental fleets#
Rental operators can add their logo, phone number, and a large number on each craft. Clear numbers help staff manage rentals and identify riders on the water. Our fleet numbering guide explains how to plan a system.
Cleaning#
Rinse with fresh water after each use, especially in salt water. Use wrap-safe products and avoid abrasive pads.
Frequently asked questions#
Can I install a jet ski graphics kit myself?#
Some kits are designed for DIY, but tight curves can be challenging. Take your time and follow the kit instructions.
Do jet ski wraps last as long as boat wraps?#
They may wear faster because of hard use, beaching, and rider contact.
Can you wrap a PWC fleet?#
Ask us about your project through our custom boat wraps service.
