The first weeks after installation are an important time for a new wrap. The adhesive keeps building its bond, and small changes may appear as the film settles. Following your installer's aftercare advice gives the wrap the best possible start.
Wait before washing#
Your installer will tell you how long to wait before the first wash. When you do wash, use gentle hand washing, a mild wrap-safe soap, and soft tools. Rinse thoroughly and avoid scrubbing edges.
What to avoid early on#
- Pressure washing anywhere near edges and seams
- Waxes, polishes, and sealants not approved for the film
- Covering the boat too soon, if your installer advises waiting
- Heavy use or rough conditions, if your installer advises against them
- Leaning fenders or gear against fresh edges
Normal changes#
Some films have air-release channels that allow small bubbles to disappear over time. Ask your installer which small marks are normal and which need attention. Don't press, pierce, or try to fix bubbles yourself without asking first.
Check edges after first use#
After the first few trips, inspect edges and seams in good light, especially at the bow, around fittings, and near the waterline. Report any lifting promptly. Small issues are much easier to fix early, and many installers want to know about them right away.
Shade helps#
Heat can affect fresh film while the adhesive is still bonding. If you can, keep the boat shaded or covered (once your installer says covering is safe) during the first weeks.
Keep records#
Note the installation date, the film used, and any issues you notice, with photos. These records help with warranty questions later.
