A T-top or hardtop is one of the most visible parts of a center console or sport boat. Wrapping it can tie the boat's look together, add branding, or refresh a faded surface. But tops face direct overhead sun and some unique installation challenges.
Why tops are different#
Unlike hull sides, the top surface of a T-top faces straight up. This means:
- More direct sun exposure than vertical surfaces
- More heat buildup on the surface
- Faster fading in some cases
Some film warranties distinguish between horizontal and vertical surfaces. Ask what applies to your top.
Which parts to wrap#
Common choices include:
- Top surface only
- Edges and visor faces, which are seen from the side
- Underside, which faces the people in the boat
- The frame tubes, if suitable film is available
Wrapping just the edges and visor can be a cost-effective way to add color and branding where it's seen most.
Access and safety#
T-tops are high, and working on them requires safe access, such as staging or a lift. On larger tops, crews may need to reach the center safely. Ask how your installer plans to access the top.
Fittings on top#
Tops often carry antennas, lights, radar, rod holders, and speakers. These need to be removed or worked around. Removal can give a cleaner finish but adds time.
Color choice#
